About Coverist
Coverist is a music podcast in Persian for people who love hearing one song told in many voices. Each episode picks a song that has outlived its era, tells the story of how it was made and the world it was born into, and then plays its best covers side by side. From rock, metal and blues to soul, pop, jazz and country.
One melody, a thousand faces
When a song becomes a classic, other artists can't leave it alone. Some covers are faithful copies; others rewrite the song from the inside, as if the artist heard something the original never said out loud. A song from a stage musical becomes a cry for freedom. A heavy metal riff ends up on a banjo. A disco hit turns into something else entirely in the hands of a rock band. Coverist follows those journeys.
How an episode works
- The time and place the song came from
- The artist, and the story of writing and recording it
- A close reading of the lyrics
- The covers: from the most faithful to the strangest, played and compared
Who makes it
Coverist is made by Ehsan, who is neither a critic nor a musician, just a listener who loves great music. It began years ago as the Instagram page @songs_and_the_covers and now continues, in more depth, as a podcast.
Listening in English?
The episodes are in Persian (Farsi), but the music speaks for itself: song and artist names, and of course every song and cover, are in their original language.
